Space Forge is a fast-growing in-space manufacturing company. We are first and foremost a materials company, developing new compound semiconductor substrates. We do this onboard the world’s first returnable and re-launchable satellite platform, the ForgeStar. The ForgeStar can support a wide array of missions, from in-space manufacturing of new materials and microgravity research to planetary landing systems and deep space exploration.

We are looking to hire a Systems Engineering Lead to join our team, someone who has a desire to be part of our journey to build something generational. Someone who has experienced fast company growth and the challenges that come along with it.

What will you do?

  • Ensuring compliance with company and applicable standards, procedures, and customer requirements
  • Participate in Design and Acceptance reviews as a key stakeholder in the approval.
  • Supporting with Project Management, Project Leads to develop Project plans and ensure effective long term resource planning roadmaps
  • Providing guidance to less experienced engineers, supporting team members wellbeing and career development
  • Reporting to the Engineering Operations Manager
  • Champion process improvements and participate in lessons learned with a view to continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Establish and maintain Systems Engineering processes across our Space and Materials projects and programmes
  • Extend and maintain the Requirements Management System across our Space and Materials projects and programmes
  • Define and implement Systems Engineering Management plans for the complete lifecycle of our programmes
  • Enforce best practice across the Systems team and our Space and Materials projects and programmes through appropriate reviews and lessons learned.
  • Ensure Systems Engineering team resource allocations to projects are correct and effective
  • Lead and mentor Systems team members by providing coaching, training, performance evaluations, and fostering a culture of accountability, responsibility, and continuous professional growth in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures.

The range of skills we are looking for:

Technical skills:

  • Broad experience of Systems Engineering principles covering the full life cycle of complex systems including requirements analysis, system design, integration, testing, and validation and operation.
  • A working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements (e.g. ECSS)
  • Experience in satellite systems design and lifecycle
  • Experience in implementing MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering) methodologies into active programmes.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor materials manufacturing processes is desirable.

Soft skills:

  • At least 5 years of equivalent Systems Engineering management
  • Process improvement goal driven.
  • Enforcing standards and adherence to process/quality where required.
  • Communication skills to justify/explain technical aspects to suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Salary for this role: £55,000+ per annum, depending on knowledge, experience and skills.
