Build the next era of access to space...

Radian is disrupting the aerospace industry with a next generation aerospace vehicle, Radian One that is the world’s first fully reusable horizontal takeoff and landing, single stage to orbit spaceplane, delivering people and light cargo to low earth orbit (LEO) and multiple terrestrial destinations with aircraft-like operations. Radian will provide the most frequent, reliable, and affordable human transportation in the aerospace industry, inspiring and driving the creation of totally new industries and unlocking limitless possibilities for humankind.

Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs), core to Radian One, are poised to be the next materials revolution (source: NASA & DoD). Radian aims to lead in advanced manufacturing and reindustrialization by building the infrastructure to deliver CMC-based dual-use systems and critical industrial base capacity. We call this evolution Radian Forward and it represents a $1B+ near-term market opportunity and paves the way to our unwavering mission to have Radian One available for commercial flight by 2032.

At Radian we believe that we are best inspired when in the presence of those that are uniquely different from ourselves in an environment where all voices are sought and earnestly heard. As a CMC Specialist, you will have a deep understanding of the chemistry and physics of the CMC process. As well as direct, hands-on experience in C/C (carbon–carbon) and C/SiC (carbon–silicon carbide) composite manufacturing including facility specifications, process development, and equipment selection.

The ideal candidate must be able to understand how to optimize the production floor and understand the equipment, processes, and techniques required to produce high-quality composite parts at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the C/C and C/SiC composite manufacturing process.
  • Select, set up, and monitor the appropriate machines, tooling, and fixtures to yield the identified results for each stage of production.
  • Refine processes to maximize efficiency, repeatability, and product quality.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime and waste.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate design requirements into repeatable manufacturing steps.
  • Monitor and maintain quality standards, ensuring all products meet required specifications.
  • Contribute to scaling up production from prototype to higher-volume manufacturing.
  • Support training and mentorship of operators or technicians on best practices.

Capabilities

  • Proven, hands-on experience in ceramic matrix composite manufacturing, specifically C/C and C/SiC processes.
  • Deep knowledge of floor-level production equipment: presses, furnaces, CNC machines, autoclaves, chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) or equivalent systems.
  • Ability to optimize machine parameters for speed, quality, and consistency.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with both process and equipment.
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement and efficiency gains on the manufacturing floor.
  • Understanding of quality assurance practices, inspection methods, and production documentation.

Role Expectations & Additional Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of direct experience in CMC process development and manufacturing operations (C/C, C/SiC).
  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, or high-performance materials environments.
  • Familiarity with scaling production from R&D to low-rate or full-rate production.
  • Advanced degree in materials science, physics, or chemistry.
  • Ideal candidate will be available for full time direct hire, but we are open to other engagement scenarios including consulting or contractor arrangements.
